Cool Lightning Facts
1. When lightning strikes a beach it discharges , in some cases up to 1 million volts or more into the ground fusing the sand and soil. This result sin the formation of narrow glassy tubes called, Fulgurite. This is useful as it can be used to identify where a previous storm has been, they are also prized by collectors.
2. According to the UK met office, their research indicated that helicopters can cause an isolated lightning strike. While flying, the helicopter acquires a negative charge, so if it flies close to an area that is positively charged (e.g. hail or the base of a cumulonimbus cloud) it can trigger a lightning strike
